Entre Linhas
Entre Linhas , is a site - specific installation made for the exhibition 232 Celsius which took place at the Coimbra Editora in November 2022. My work was hosted in the director’s room which used to be the office of Salazar. That was the place where he and his team would censuur or deny the future publications.
catalogue text:
On the first floor of Coimbra Editora, at the end of a hallway, there is a room marked as the Office. The space is small, with a window facing the courtyard and two doors. In this office, decisions were made at a leadership level; publications were managed, strategies dictated, and rules and restrictions imposed.
It is a room that embodies various versions of the power of the word—some fueling theories that limit free thought, others as expressions of the fight for freedom of speech.
The installation ‘Entre-linhas’ weaves together the complex elements that converge in this office of rule-making.
Seemingly harmonious, the space is decorated with the portuguese tiles
Intertwined with the tiles, messages emerge in the form of telegrams. The content of this weave reveals not only diligent requests and personal favors to a friend and former classmate, but also discloses a 1959 manifesto signed by dozens of intellectuals who disagreed with the imposed and authoritarian politics.
