The Story of Rice, 2018, is one of the projects done during my residency in Arita , Japan. 'KOKU = 365 masus' is one of the installations made using porcelain, wood and rice. The koku and the masu are Japanese measurements introduced during the Edo Period. The smallest one, 'ichigo-masu' used to be the daily portion of rice that a servant received from his master Samurai. At the final presentation in Arita the public could bring their old wooden masu and exchange for a new porcelain one.
